I was actively involved in this Breakout group session discussion along with Steve Welch, Director of Smart specialization Hub and others.
The keynote address was mostly on Innovation, regional of economic growth in UK to provide a detailed productivity problem as stated by Richard Jones, professor of Physics, University of Sheffield.
Furthermore we had a Perspective on Place based strategy and Analysis of data by Howard Partidge, Regional manger of East of England, Innovate UK
Developing Evidence for local Industrial strategies as predicted by Will Lord, Senior Policy Advisory, cities and Local growth unit , Ministry of housing communicates and Local Government of UK and Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS)
However our main focus was to understand Local contributions to R&D - in the context of the 2.4% national target explained by Paul Darbwell, Deputy director of science, Research and Innovation, BEIS
We were divided in a group of 10 people to share and discuss about the Harnessing Data and evidence to measure and predict local economic performance , well contained and briefly described by Howard Partridge, Smart specialization lead and Regional Manager for the east of England , Innovate UK.
I spoke on the data collection and the noise available in the data when generated during the data pre-processing step in Data scientist method.
There were another group of breakout explaining the ideas and local industrial strategy for the cities and local growth units through out the world.
In the UK, this has masked the fact that it represents a wider trend in a larger number of countries towards place-based innovation strategies.
Finally, conclusions are derived regarding the possibility of collaboration between UK and regions in these countries.
